Orapin Sinamornvec and sustainability led board

Orapin Sinamornvec - KokoBoard

Sustainability is the leading factor that needs to be promoted in today’s time. The way consumers are going for stuff coming in fast fashion and other unstainable things make the situation of Earth worse.

But there are people who work to make a change. For conserving the environment, one does not need to be an Environment advocate but just an enthusiast. The same has done Orapin Sinamornvec.

She earlier was working on making TV commercials. But her way and thinking shifted towards sustainability when she met a farmer.

Her sustainability journey

The meeting of Orapin with a coconut farmer allowed her to think out of the box. The farmer said that he is not having any benefits in the coconut business.

He appealed for help from her. Orapin then started thinking about the ideas of how to help him. Later she came up with the idea of making a board with the help of agricultural wastes.

Features of the board:

The board is made up of agricultural wastes and coconut shells

This way of making board is a good alternative to wood

It promotes sustainability and focuses on stopping Deforestation

Recently Orapin has also developed Koko-board. It is a bio-composite board that is consisting peanut shells as raw material. The peanut shells then convert into particle boards with the help of a hot press procedure. It also contains formaldehyde-free adhesive.

With this process, the particle board produces using less energy. The boards are also providing a great way of environment conservation by reducing the emissions of Carbon dioxide.

Earlier where farmers were using harvest methods for destroying the wastes and produce high carbon emissions. Now the wastes get used for making boards; thereby reusing factor comes into the picture.

The sustainable board

the quality remains high even with natural materials.

How this sustainability approach helps farmers?

The wastes are necessary to make particle boards. So, firms buy waste from the farmers of the peanut shells sector. Hence, the income of farmers also increases this way. They can now have a good lifestyle and better life.

How are peanut shells better than wood for board making?

The peanut shells have a better resistance to flame and moisture. If a board is made up of wood, then the chances are high that moisture can imbalance the board strength because of changing weather conditions and uneven temperature.

But with peanut shells led board, one can be ensured of having comparatively good quality and effectiveness. The Sustainability led board use some unique and natural raw materials.

The peanut shells led boards can also be used as a raw material in the construction of wood, ceilings, and floors. They are also useful for forming furniture and other materials that have wood required as a material in the making process.

Impact

Based on their current capacity, Kokoboard is able to save more than 1600 trees which is equivalent to reducing the deforestation of ~8 acres/year only from using ricestraw as a raw material. So, overall their impact is much more than this as they make Vetiver Grass Board, Rice Straw Board, Peanut Shell Board, Rice Husk Board and Coconut Board. Thus making a complete Sustainability led board!

She has also started selling some really cool products made from these items on her new website www.piecefull.com. Do check them out and support a business that actually runs beyond profits!

Orapin indeed did a great job. Woods are using as a raw material for the formation of many things. This process makes deforestation more prominent in today’s time. But when we shift the focus to peanut shells and other agricultural wastes, it changes the whole game.

To wrap up, Sustainability in boards is just the starting. If every sector incorporates the sustainable approach, the world could become healthier and more suitable for upcoming and present generations.
